Be strong and courageous. And if that is not adequate, it is repeated:
Be strong and very courageous. And repeated again!
The messages inherent in this chapter are good news for troubled times and times eliciting concern.
These are some of the promises God gave Joshua: (from the NIV)
Verse 3: I will give you every place you set your foot, as I promised Moses.
Verse 5: No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you or forsake you.
Verse 6: Be strong and courageous
Verse 7: Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey....
Verse 8: Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips.... Then you will be prosperous and successful. (There was a condition!)
Verse 9: Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.
And the chapter ends with a segment of those for whom he had special instructions responding back to Joshua, "...Only be strong and courageous."
What a chapter!
While this was for Joshua, the challenge is one we can assimilate.
BE STRONG AND VERY COURAGEOUS! The LORD your God is with you.
After Jesus came (God incarnate) He promised us that through the power of the Holy Spirit He would always be with us. And He keeps His promises. His presence is not based on feeling, but on His Word.
In Matthew 28:20 Jesus declared, "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Again, obedience was the challenge they were given.
What an awesome God!
