ISRAEL TRIP OVERVIEW

WOW! What an amazing trip - with wonderful reminders and, now, wonderful memories to review!

One of many outstanding facets of the journey was our guide. The first time I went to Israel 5 years ago, we had a delightful guide, and it was a good trip - but our guide for this tour was absolutely incredible - and a walking encyclopedia. I am absolutely certain we had the best guide in all of Israel.

One of the things Mark reminded us of frequently was, "Think about what happened here." As we drove through the countryside, he pointed out locations where events of the Bible had occurred. I am visual - so the implications for the future in identifying specific places as I read the Bible is invaluable. It makes the Bible come alive. It makes me pay attention!

Our first stop was Caesarea - on the shore of the Mediterranean. Caesarea was originally built by Herod the Great about 25 - 35 years before Jesus was born. The picture I posted is the footprint of Herod's palace, right on the Mediterranean. This is the same Herod who tried to kill Jesus. His palace existed when Jesus was alive. When we live in a country that is so young, it is amazing to see things that are so old...things Jesus' disciples saw.

I'll be sharing more - but for now, just want to let you know it was an awesome trip!

We rarely got news, so what was happening just next door in Egypt wasn't foremost in our minds. We were in a time warp - yet conscious that we were experiencing something that may not be possible in the future because of what is occurring in the Middle East, with huge changes in governments of the countries bordering Israel.

Shalom.
