ADVENT 2023 – Blog #10: December 12

I am diving in today to explore some Old Testament prophecies about the birth of Jesus that were fulfilled in the New Testament (ESV).

Isaiah 7:14 prophesies:

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Immanuel means: God with us.

Luke 1:35 is the direct fulfillment of that prophecy:

And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God...."

Obviously that is revisiting what we already explored about Mary's encounter with the angel Gabriel. However, my objective over the next few days is simply to corroborate the Old Testament prophecies with the fulfillment evidenced in the New Testament.

Isaiah was written sometime during Isaiah's ministry, approximately 740-701 B C. That is over 700 years before Jesus was born! Amazing! And it happened just as was prophesied!
