Day 9 SLOT CANYON TRIP: JUNE 1, 2011

This was a practically perfect day!

We went in as instructed at about 8:30 a m. Filled out the paperwork. And waited. At precisely 9 a m, the process began. Each application was assigned a number. Our number was 14. There were a total of 59 people in the lottery, most in pairs. Balls with the assigned numbers on them were placed in the tumbler, and then one number at a time was drawn. The first number drawn was 14. Like the gal told us the day before, if you don't enter, you certainly won't win! I prayed we'd get to go - and we did! We were both elated. The 3rd number drawn was a couple of younger gals had Al chatted with outside. Later, we became friends....

After we were drawn, we had the whole day to explore. First we went to an area called THE TOADSTOOLS. The one I selected to share is their most famous one. Following that gnasty gnat hike, we went through Page to Upper Antelope, where we paid for hiking on Navajo Land in Water Hole Canyon. We had to climb down a very steep wall to get into the canyon - and after going through a long wider area, it finally narrowed and was a lot of fun.... It was also hot.

And - even hotter by the time we hiked up over a hill and down to Horseshoe Bend...but it was absolutely breathtaking....
